Southern Folger Brings the Alcatraz Slammer Back to Life: Partnership with National Parks Service Resurrects the Experience of the "Slammer" for Millions of Park Visitors.

This summer, millions of visitors to Alcatraz Island can once again experience the sights and sounds of this infamous prison.  The historic Alcatraz Island "Slammer", or cell lines, is appropriately named.  When occupied, guards would sound out the nightly command "Rack 'em", and a system of levers would be pulled by hand to initiate the metallic clang of 600 cell doors slamming shut in unison.  For some of the country's most notorious prisoners, that sound signified the end of the line.  Read more
